Killer news coming at you folks today!
Eric McCallister Photography will be coming to Ice Fest! YES! Eric will be there at FRIDAY evenings events with his portrait/photo setup! We can wait to see how he approaches photographing all you ice climbers on FRIDAY evening of Ice Fest at Theater In The Wood!
Eric is a master at climbing photography but also in portraits and killer lighting setups. He is also a longtime New England climber and is pretty good at being an all round awesome guy. Portraits will be available to view online after the event, and you can purchase them! When you purchase your portrait, all the proceeds go to Jim Ewing. Wait…..who is Jim Ewing? Oh yeah, keep reading!
Jim Ewing is a longtime New England rock and ice climbing bad ass, and a senior rope engineer with our good friends at Sterling Rope. Have you every climbed at Shagg Crag? Yeah, Jim helped develop that beautiful crag. And he has also pioneered numerous hard and futuristic mixed and ice climbs throughout New Engalnd and is has always been a steward of information for the climbing community. He also used to come and help set the comp routes when we had the climbing competition here at the MWV Ice Fest. Catch our drift? Jim rocks.
Unfortunately Jim Ewing took a bad fall while climbing in the Caymans recently. He suffered broken bones including multiple fractures to his pelvis, wrists and ankles. Miraculously, his head is fine, but his whole body took the brunt of it. He is currently in Maine recovering, but the out of pocket medical bills are racking up immensely, and we want to help Jim and his family! What could we do? Eric McCallister and Mount Washington Valley Ice Fest Coordinator (and professional photographer) Anne Skidmore came up with the Jim Ewing Poster Project. We are printing three different posters with beautiful local ice and mixed climbing imagery on them. Specifically Majka Burhardt climbing Dropline, Peter Doucette climbing Way In the Wilderness, and Jim Ewing himself climbing a stellar mixed line known as Dial M For Murder. Each poster is only $10, ALL the proceeds go to Jim and helping him and his family. Or you can buy all three posters for $25! At the Mount Washington Ice Fest we love ice climbing and getting after it, but it’s even more special when we can all rally together and do some good deeds for fellow friends and climbers who need a hand. Hey, who doesn’t need a hand once in awhile!? Check out the poster below, and bring some extra cash with you to Ice Fest this year!
