Mt. Washington. The highest peak in the northeast, and a “small” mountain by elevation standards, it lies at the intersection of three major storm tracks and is known as the home of the “world’s worst weather.” Mt. Washington prominence, geography, and notorious winds make it a very challenging winter ascent. Our guides will lead you safely from the valley towards the alpine zone with a goal to reach the 6,288 foot peak. Conditions above timberline can be as serious as any mountain in the world. As we ascend we will discuss general mountaineering skills, winter navigation and we will practice basic crampon and ice axe skills. No previous mountaineering experience is required. However, participants should be physically prepared and well equipped for a rigorous all-day experience.
Special Notes
We will meet at International Mountain Equipment at 7:00am for a gear check and to get fitted for mountaineering boots, crampons and ice axe.
Winter ascents of Mt. Washington can take between 7-10 hours door-to-door.
