We center Black, Indigenous and People of Color and People of the Global Majority (BIPOC/PGM) for a one day ascent of Mount Washington. This clinic, sponsored by Arc’Teryx Boston, will be paced for first time ascensionists, though more experienced climbers can get plenty of 1:1 instruction throughout the day as well.

Mt. Washington. The highest peak in the northeast, and a “small” mountain by elevation standards, it lies at the intersection of three major storm tracks and is known as the home of the “world’s worst weather.” Mt. Washington prominence, geography, and notorious winds make it a very challenging winter ascent. Our guides will lead you safely from the valley towards the alpine zone with a goal to reach the 6,288 foot peak. Conditions above timberline can be as serious as any mountain in the world. As we ascend we will discuss general mountaineering skills, winter navigation and we will practice basic crampon and ice axe skills. No previous mountaineering experience is required. However, participants should be physically prepared and well equipped for a rigorous all-day experience.

While we encourage those who racially identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color to join any clinic offered at Ice Fest, this clinic is specifically intended to provide a space exclusively for BIPOC/PGM.
